Last week I got in a set of cheap ebay radio flash triggers ($35 for transmitter and 3 receivers). They work surprisingly well. I expected at least one unit to be doa for that kind of price. So last night I was playing with them and decided in true
Strobist fashion to see put together the cheapest portrait setup I could rig together. Here is what I came up with.
- D60 $300 refurbished(could have used my $100 N2020 in retrospect but digital outways developing costs)
- Nikon 18-55mm DX kit lens can be had for about $80 (non VR)
- Nikon SB-20 flash - proving itself to be very useful for getting it thrown in with a pile of old lenses and nikon film gear I picked up from craigslist for $120. (any manual flash would work)
- Sturdy metal tripod I found at a yard sale for $6. Score
- Phoshot wireless flash trigger set - ebay $35 for full set with 3 receivers. Only one used
- Homemade softbox consisting of duct tape and printer paper
- One sub-standard model (yours truly)
